“In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.”

– Mark 1:35

Each morning, we lay the foundation for the rest of our day. Many of us have a morning routine of turning to our phones, email, or social media early in the day.

In the gospel passage, we see Jesus waking early and going somewhere to be alone and to pray. In the midst of his busy schedule and growing popularity, Jesus’ priority was time spent with God.

As we fast from media, we have the space and time to consider where we focus our attention and make new decisions that matter, whether it’s getting to bed earlier or starting the day with a practice of prayer or silence.

Do you find yourself turning to media in your down time? We invite you to spend five minutes at the beginning or end of your day to sit in prayer or meditation.
